Update

I’ve been MIA for a bit because I started a new job last week. This job means that I am eating lunch at the office as opposed to at home. So now, I am bringing lunch and snacks to work. So far salads and sandwiches have worked for me, I want to start bringing soup next week, but I need a lunch  box. For those who read this occasionally, where do you get a lunch box from?

By the way, I lost ANOTHER pound, so I am down to 140 lbs, which is unbelievable to me. I am happy to have met my 15 lbs weight loss goal at this point, and I plan to continue and loose 10 more. My goal is still January 2014, but we shall see, it is more important for me to make small changes that will eventually get me to my goal, rather than quick and easy weight loss.

Fitness is still going strong and I have found two races that I want to run, one 5k in August and one Half Marathon in December. I am looking forward to the challenge of both. I am still running every other day, as weather permits, and I am now consistently going to yoga. I wanted to wait until my gym contract was up before I began paying for yoga. I am going to Yoga class twice a week, class #1 is Ashtanga (one can never go wrong with the primary series), and class #2 is Hot Yoga (I LOVE how my body feels after this class). I am going to my old faithful Yoga studio, I first went there in 2006 and have been going ever since because it is just that great of a studio.  When not running or doing Yoga I do a ZWOW, but now that Zuzka has her whole online thing, I am going to start the Strength Training DVD next week. I’m excited to see what changes that will bring.

I will post a video this weekend showing my Six Month progress and talk about my plans for continuing this journey to a more fit me.

Product Review: Ezekiel 4:9 Cinnamon Raisin Cereal

I am not usually a cereal girl mainly because I do not like the taste of cows milk. However, since discovering Almond Milk, I have wanted to try healthy cereals as another quick breakfast option. This is my first healthy cereal and it is so very delicious. It tastes like Raisin Bran without the bad sugars and with tons of additional great nutrients. I use the Original Diamond Almond Milk, so I do not add any sugar to my milk, but I do add 1/2 a banana or any fruit in my arsenal to add that extra touch of sweetness.

This cereal is made by the Food For Life company, of which I have fallen in love. I have this cereal, the sprouted bread, tortillas, wraps, and pockets all from this company. This cereal contains: Organic Sprouted Whole Grains, Water, Organic Raisins, Organic Barley, Organic Millet, Organic Lentils, Organic Soybeans, Organic Spelt, Sea Salt, and Organic Cinnamon. As you can tell by the ingredients, it is incredibly healthy, and yet it doesn’t have that typical health food taste. YOU KNOW that taste I’m talking about, its food that doesn’t taste great, but its healthy and doesn’t taste bad, really, so you endure. This is not that food, it tastes just like Raisin Bran, but it doesn’t have any added sugars. This cereal is all natural, organic, it has no preservatives, no cholesterol, no artificial flavors or colors, and is completely flourless.

If you can’t tell, I am surprised by how much I enjoy this cereal. It is in the $5-$6 range, so it is not cheap, but its not expensive, and considering the fact that I do not eat cereal every day, its economical for me. All of that protein in each spoonful makes this an ideal cereal for me, for those that are interested, it also comes in other flavors, including the Original Flavor, Almond, and Golden Flax.

Weekly Update: 06/11/13

I did it again, I lost another pound, this brings me to 141! That means so far this year I have lost 14 lbs, and I did it in a sustainable way. Which means I have kept off the pounds, made great permanent changes, and I have solid plans to continue on this journey until I reach my 20 pound goal, and beyond.

This past week was great in the food department, I have another recipe to review, and I used papaya in my smoothies this week. I have never used an actual papaya before, just papaya juice, so that was an interesting change. I discovered that I do not really like papaya by itself, you live and you learn. I froze fresh beans for the first time last week, I plan to use them in salads and for bean curry, which I haven’t had in awhile. I mostly ate fish last week and chicken last week, with some cheesecake factory thrown in there while out of town. My sweets for last week included Fat Boy Mini Ice Cream Sandwiches and Apple Pie.

I also managed to get in my three runs last week, but no strength training. I will start the Zuzka Strength series next week, but in the mean time I plan to get at least 4 runs in this week and a ZWOW twice this week. I plan to try a new taco recipe this week as well. As you can see, I am taking this health thing a week at a time because it seems to be working for me.

A Quick and Easy Couscous Dinner Review

One night last week I was trying to decide what to eat for dinner, and instead of being proactive and walking into my kitchen, I procrastinated by hopping on my computer to watch Youtube videos. During my perusal, I came across a new Zuzka Light video in which she shared a new recipe:

As I was watching I realized that I had almost all of the ingredients for this recipe sitting in my kitchen, as a result I decided to get off of my bum and make this Sexy Abs recipe. The only ingredient I did not have was canned tomatoes, but I did have half of a tomato in my fridge which I had previously used for a salad, so I simply substituted half a real tomato for the canned tomato. I would have used a whole tomato if I had one, but it did not make a difference in the recipe. I even mixed together her spice mixture because I like to follow the recipe the first time, and then make any necessary changes the next time if I decide to make it again.  Well, of course I made the dish and was pleasantly surprised.

This dish packs great flavor, and its not that healthy food type of flavor, no its just good flavor in general. The spice mixture is really quite delightful and I did not even realize that there was no additional salt in the recipe until I was half of the way through eating because it did not need any extra salt. I made four portions from this recipe, I ate it twice as is, and I added the mixture along with lettuce for a wrap the next two times. It was so delicious! As far as quick goes, well once you start cooking, it is quick, but I have to say its not a 10 minute meal, more like 20, so its still quick, just not as simple one pot meal quick. Was it easy, quite so, I mean there were no special techniques involved, which makes this ideal for any level cook. I will make this again and I encourage you to give it a go and tell me what you think!

Grocery List: 06/03/13

I realized that its been awhile since I posted a grocery list, but to be honest, my last set of groceries lasted awhile. This grocery trip was focused on getting more fruits and veggies because I was out of almost all of them. I bought some new items to give a try, and I bought some things to try a new recipe. I should mention that I realized today that I forgot to buy Almond Milk, so I will purchase some today, and I will purchase more fish when I intend to eat it. I am also going to the farmers market today, I think I will film that trip…..maybe.

I LOST A POUND!!!!

This means that my detox did what I wanted it to, it gave my body a little shock and a boost. I have been consistently getting my runs in, 3 a week so far. I hope to bump it up to 4 a week, but it is going to depend on time as I am doing more traveling this summer. Zuzana of Zuzkalight.com has come out with a strength series and I plan to begin that as soon as the videos arrive alongside my running. The running is a great stress reliever for me, it also seems to give me more energy and I can’t help be happy with how my legs are beginning to look. I took some new body photos this weekend that I will share this week once I load them.

Food has been so much better on my part since deciding to allow myself sweets. I have stopped binging and am instead controlling my sugar intake. Cold turkey is not the way to go for this sugar addict, instead controlling when and how frequently I  intake my allowed sweets seems to be a better solution. I have been trying some awesome recipes, so I will be sharing those as well. Its been almost 6 months since I began this health journey, and so far things are going great!!! I am slowly making changes (be sure the health changes tab to keep up with those), and as a result I have more energy, my skin is glowing, and I just plain feel good!
